River Plate vs Rosario Central
River Plate are yet to find their best version in the league, but they are managing to claim victories lately. Last Wednesday, they clinched an important 2-1 home success over Platense thanks to goals from Nicolas De la Cruz and Matias Suarez. Thanks to that win, El Millonario secured their ticket to the 2023 Copa Libertadores via the aggregate table after accumulating 44 points in the Liga Profesional (four behind leaders Boca Juniors). In fact, Marcelo Gallardo are on four consecutive wins in this competition. At home, River won their last two matches.
Rosario Central secured an important point on their visit to title candidates Atletico Tucuman last Monday, when Gaspar Servio saved a penalty in stoppage time to leave it 1-1. However, El Canalla also made it eight league games without a win (drawing six and losing two in the process), which means they accumulated 28 points in 25 games so far. That poor campaign keeps El Canalla out from the fight for the continental tickets. On away turf, Carlos Tevez’s men have been winless in the last seven (four draws and three defeats).
This will be Marcelo Gallardo’s last home game as River’s coach after 8 very succesful years so I can’t imagine that they won’t win easily and say goodbye to a club legend.
