River Plate vs Boca Juniors
River Plate come to the derby after a valuable 3-1 away success at CA Central Cordoba, which extended their unbeaten run to eight league games (six victories and two draws). Thanks to that victory, Marcelo Gallardo’s men remain in second spot of the league table on 27 points, trailing leaders Talleres by two, and they also continue occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ places in the aggregate table. Furthermore, El Millonario are on six home matches without defeat in league action, having won four and drawn two.
Boca Juniors secured an important 1-0 home success over defending champions Colon last Sunday thanks to Nicolas Orsini’s first strike at the club. Therefore, the team remain unbeaten under interim coach Sebastian Battaglia, having registered five wins and two draws in league action to make it 21 points (trailing leaders Talleres by eight and just five points behind the last Copa Libertadores’ berth).
There are no doubts that River is the better team in this edition of the Superclasico. Boca will put up a good fight but they’ll probably try to play defensive and if the hosts go up in the score I don’t think they will have a plan B.
