Racing vs Newell’s
Racing Club seem unbeatable at the moment: the side secured a 3-2 away success at Patronato even though coach Fernando Gago fielded an alternative XI last Wednesday. La Academia have virtually secured their ticket to the playoffs as they continue at the top of the group A table on 27 points. The team also extended their unbeaten streak to 12 league matches (nine victories and three draws).
Newell’s Old Boys took a big step towards the playoffs in the Copa Liga Profesional last Wednesday, when they secured an important 1-0 home success over Banfield thanks to a penalty netted by Juan Manuel Garcia. The team won six of their last eight league matches (along with one draw and one loss), including the last two, to make it 22 points in 11 games this term, occupying third place in group A. Seven of those points were grabbed on away turf as a product of two victories, one stalemate and two losses.
Racing is red hot at the moment but again I have to oppose them. They’ve almost secured a place in the playoffs, they play Copa Sudamericana midweek, and they will face a tough Newell’s that needs points to finish in the top 4 of the group, so I go here with the visitors.
