Racing Club vs Newell’s
Racing Club three-match winning streak in league action came to an end last Saturday, when coach Fernando Gago decided to rest most of his regulars and the team showed a poor version to end up losing 3-1 away at Gimnasia LP. Therefore, La Academia remain on 17 points in the Liga Profesional table, now trailing leaders River Plate by seven. On a positive note, the side remain unbeaten at their own stadium in 2023, registering three consecutive victories and two stalemates in this competition so far.
Newell’s Old Boys had to settle for a scoreless stalemate in a heated derby against Rosario Central at home last Sunday. Even though their fans felt disappointed last weekend, La Lepra are producing a worthy campaign in the Liga Profesional: they succumbed to a single defeat across the last five league games, along with two victories and two draws, which means they accumulated 15 points in ten rounds so far. On a sorry note, Newell’s are winless in their last six away games in domestic action, having drawn three and lost three since beating CA Central Cordoba 3-0 in October. All regulars are fit to visit Racing Club on Wednesday, however, coach Gabriel Heinze will introduce a big rotation here.
Racing rested regulars last weekend and they should be back now so I expect them to beat this Newell’s that will use a mixed lineup.
