Lanus vs Independiente
Last time out, Lanus couldn’t handle the event of playing with ten men since the second minute of the game and ended up losing 2-1 away at Sarmiento. After securing only one point across the last eight league matches (drawing one and losing seven), El Granate remain bottom in the Liga Profesional table on six points and also occupy the last place in the aggregate rankings. If they don’t improve soon, this campaign could compromise the club’s top flight status in the future. At home, Lanus are on three winless games in this competition, having drawn and lost two since beating Colon 1-0 in round four.
Independiente returned to their usual standards last Sunday, when they lost 1-0 to River Plate at home. Coach Julio Falcioni had a disappointing debut at the club as his team conceded in stoppage time. That result represented El Rojo’s sixth defeat across the last eight league games, along with one success and one draw and accumulating 11 points in 12 rounds in the Liga Profesional, which is a terrible campaign for one of the Argentinian big five. Independiente won their last away match at Colon to break an eight-game winless streak of two draws and six losses on the road in league action.
Even if Independiente are in bad form at the moment, they have the potential to beat this terrible Lanus that are arguably the worst team in the league right now.
