Argentine Primera Division: Godoy Cruz vs Velez Odds for November 24, 2024

Godoy Cruz vs Velez

Godoy Cruz continue getting worse game after game. Last Monday, El Tomba succumbed to a heartbreaking 1-0 away defeat to Platense after conceding in the 91st minute. As a result, they are now on five league matches without a win (two stalemates and three losses). Following that streak, coach Daniel Oldra left the club. The side remain on 28 points in the Liga Profesional, which places them now six points behind the last Copa Libertadores berth in the aggregate table. Godoy Cruz lost to Talleres 1-0 in their last home match after ten unbeaten at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas (winning four and drawing six). Ernesto Pedernera will take over as interim boss on Sunday.

Velez Sarsfield are still finding trouble to extend their gap at the top of the league table. Last Wednesday, they had to settle for a disappointing scoreless home stalemate against Lanus despite dominating the game. El Fortin are on seven league games unbeaten, but winning just two of those and drawing five. As a result, they remain as Liga Profesional leaders on 44 points, but just two above second-placed Huracan. On away turf, Velez remain winless in their last four, with three draws and one loss. Joaquin Garcia returns from his ban on Sunday, but Emanuel Mammana remains out injured and Damian Fernandez is now suspended.

Neither can afford a draw here: Godoy Cruz might be on their last chance of fighting for a Copa Libertadores spot while Velez are leaders with 4 rounds left but Huracan and Racing are too close to take risks. Velez will miss important defender Mammana as well as his replacement Daniel Fernandez and this could be a problem for them, so I’ll go for the OVER here.
