Gimnasia vs Atletico Tucuman
Gimnasia LP returned to their usual standards last Thursday, when they lost 1-0 away at Independiente and could even have suffered a heavier blow as a result of a poor performance. El Lobo claimed a single victory in their last ten league games, along with six stalemates and three losses, which leaves them on 29 points in the Liga Profesional and out of the fight for a continental ticket. Gimnasia beat Newell’s Old Boys 1-0 in their last home match after four without a win at Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo (drawing two and losing two).
Atletico Tucuman showed their home strength last Monday, when they managed a massive 4-2 home success over second-placed Huracan in an entertaining game. El Decano made it three victories and one draw across their last five games to accumulate 36 points (along with a single defeat) in the Liga Profesional, which allows them to hold onto a tiny chance of fighting for a continental ticket (now trailing the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table by six points).
Even though Atletico has struggled when playing away, they are definitely a better team than Gimnasia who will have some important missings in attack like Abaldo and Briasco. The visitors come from a big win vs Huracan and should be motivated because they are still on the fight to get a Copa Sudamericana place so I expect them to get a good result here.
