Godoy Cruz vs Lanus
Godoy Cruz remain as one of the best teams in the Argentine league. Last Thursday, the team played enjoyable football to claim an easy 2-0 away success at bottom-placed CA Central Cordoba. As a result, El Tomba made it all six points so far, becoming one of the group leaders (alongside Newell’s Old Boys and Estudiantes). In fact, Daniel Oldra’s men are on four league games unbeaten in regular time, winning two and drawing two. At home, Godoy Cruz lost only one of their last 19 home matches, winning 11 and drawing seven: they will host this one at Gimnasia Mendoza again.
After a promising start, Lanus played a terrible match last Tuesday and suffered a deserved 2-0 home loss to group B leaders Newell’s Old Boys. El Granate remain on three points after the first two rounds in the Copa Liga Profesional. Having claimed a single victory across their last five league matches, along with two draws and two losses, the team are now just one spot away from the relegation zone in the point-average table (level with Velez Sarsfield and only above Deportivo Riestra).
I have to go here again with Godoy Cruz as they try to be perfect after 3 games. They’ve been one of the best teams of this first rounds and they’ve been extremely strong at home lately, so I think they should be able to beat this Lanus that is coming from a very disappointing performance at home vs Newell’s.
