Gimnasia vs Estudiantes
Gimnasia LP are getting worse game after game. The team will face Sunday’s city derby after a devastating 4-0 away defeat to San Lorenzo following a terrible performance. El Lobo made it three league games without a win, having drawn one and lost two in that spell, and are getting closer to the bottom spot of the league table: Sebastian Romero’s men remain on five points, leading Sarandi Arsenal (in 28th) by just one. At home, Gimnasia won one, drew one and lost one in 2023 so far.
New coach Eduardo Dominguez had a happy debut at Estudiantes as the team secured a big 2-1 home success over Huracan last Sunday, with Santiago Ascacibar netting the winner in the 95th minute. El Pincha made it eight points in seven matches: seven of those points were claimed across the last four rounds as a product of two victories, one stalemate and one single defeat. On away turf, the side managed four points from nine on offer, having beaten Godoy Cruz, drawn at Sarandi Arsenal and lost at Union Santa Fe. All regulars are available for Sunday’s derby.
Big La Plata derby, probably the most important game of the season for both and while the winner is very hard to predict given how poor and irregular they’ve both been, I think one goal should open things as neither will like to lose, so I’m going with the OVER here.
