Gimnasia vs Belgrano
Gimnasia LP couldn’t handle coach Sebastian Romero’s decision to pick a completely alternative XI away at league leaders River Plate last Thursday and the team ended up losing 3-0. Therefore, El Lobo dropped down to 22nd spot of the Liga Profesional table, accumulating 11 points (four above bottom-placed Union Santa Fe) after winning only two of their last seven league games (one draw and four losses). On a positive note, Gimnasia are on four matches unbeaten at their own stadium in domestic action, winning three and drawing one. Centre back Felipe Sanchez returns from suspension on Saturday. The usual starters will return to league action after resting in midweek.
Belgrano are returning to their best version lately. Last Wednesday, the team had a happy return to their own stadium and beat Huracan 2-0 thanks to goals from Ulises Sanchez and Lucas Diarte. Through a three-match unbeaten streak of two victories and one draw in league action, El Pirata climbed into seventh spot of the Liga Profesional table on 18 points, clearly above the fans’ expectations. Guillermo Farre’s men took ten of those points on the road as a product of three victories, one draw and two losses.
4 out of 5 Gimnasia home games this season had at least 2 goals and I expect this trend to continue as they will have their rested starters back and Belgrano is coming from a solid win.
