Boca Juniors vs Estudiantes
Boca Juniors’ new coach Jorge Almiron had a disappointing debut at the club as his team ended up losing 1-0 away at San Lorenzo following a poor performance last Wednesday. The defending champions are producing an unacceptable campaign this term, sitting into 18th spot of the league table on 14 points after winning only one of their last six matches in this competition, along with one draw and four losses. At home, Boca are winless in the last three in domestic action, having drawn one and lost two. Centre back Jorge Figal saw a red card at San Lorenzo and is suspended while Luca Langoni and Bruno Valdez succumbed to different injuries and will miss Saturday’s game.
Meanwhile, Estudiantes had to settle for a scoreless draw against Atletico Tucuman at home in an uneventful match last Wednesday. However, the team are generally improving under recently-appointed coach Eduardo Dominguez: El Pincha are unbeaten in their last three league games, having won two and drawn one, which means they accumulate 15 points in the Liga Profesional table after a poor start. On away turf, Estudiantes won two, drew one and lost two in domestic action in 2023. Pablo Piatti overcame his muscle issues and will feature on the bench.
Boca’s new coach will make 8 changes as he is trying to find what’s best to improve this team that has been terrible so far this season, they have most of their starting defense injured, so even if Estudiantes has been irregular so far I’ll trust them not to lose here.
