Gimnasia LP continue to show improvements under recently-appointed boss Marcelo Mendez. Last time out, they deserved more in a hard-fought 1-1 away stalemate at Defensa y Justicia. El Lobo made it four points out of a possible six in Liga Profesional action. However, the team remain far away from the continental spots following their poor campaign before the new man in charge’s arrival. Overall, Gimnasia won only one of the last four league games, drawing one and losing two. At home, they managed three victories across the last four (along with a single defeat).

Banfield showed slight improvements last Sunday, when they came back from a disadvantage and secured a 1-1 home stalemate against Huracan in an entertaining game. However, it was their first point in Liga Profesional action, which keeps them far away from the continental spots in the aggregate table after winning only one of their last four league games (along with one draw and two losses). Banfield lost 1-0 at Union Santa Fe in their last away game, stopping a five-match unbeaten streak of three wins and two draws as the visiting side. Centre back Alejandro Maciel is suspended for Sunday after seeing a red card against Huracan.

Gimnasia are improving lately, with good results in the first rounds of the league and also a midweek win in Copa Argentina. They’ve been especially strong at home and I really like these odds against a Banfield depleted due to long term injuries and also without one of their main defenders.
