Defensa y Justicia – Platense
Defensa y Justicia, who finished their 2023 campaign in poor form, seem to have a lot of work to do. Last Sunday, the team were dominated from beginning to end and succumbed to a 2-0 away defeat to Godoy Cruz. Following that result, El Halcon remain without a win in their last seven league matches: it’s been two draws and five losses since beating Lanus 2-0 away in October. Furthermore, Julio Vaccari’s haven’t claimed any victories in their last three at home in domestic action, taking a single point from nine available in that spell. Playmaker David Barbona misses out again on Wednesday due to a muscle problem.
Platense new coach Sebastian Grazzini will have felt satisfied after his debut at the club: the team showed a worthy performance and settled for a scoreless home draw against Boca Juniors. However, the last league runners-up made it four league games without a win, drawing three and losing one in regular time, and they remain just one point above the worst spots point-average table (excluding the newly-promoted teams).
Defensa looked quite poor in their debut at Godoy Cruz, losing 2-0 and barely creating any chances to score. Again they will miss playmaker Barbona and even though they should be better than Platense, I’ll go here with the UNDER as Platense defensive tactics have been working lately, like last weekend in the scoreless draw vs Boca and last season when they were able to reach the final through draws and penalties shootouts.
