Argentinos Jrs – Deportivo Riestra

After producing a very bad campaign in the 2023 Copa Liga Profesional, Argentinos Juniors showed an improved start of the season. Last Sunday, a strike from Santiago Montiel in the 84th minute allowed them to take a massive point on their visit to River Plate, drawing 1-1 in an entertaining game. On a sorry note, El Bicho made it ten matches without a win in league action, drawing five and losing five in that spell. At home, Argentinos took just two points from the last 12 on offer. Federico Redondo, Luciano Gondou, Lucas Villalba and Kevin Coronel are still missed by coach Pablo Guede.

Deportivo Riestra produced a worthy performance in their top-flight debut in history. The team secured their first point in the first division following a scoreless away draw at Instituto to make it ten league matches without defeat (winning seven and drawing three in that spell). In fact, Matias Modolo’s men haven’t lost any of their last five on away turf, with four victories and one stalemate (considering last season in the second tier). The squad are full to visit Argentinos Juniors on Wednesday. Boss Matias Modolo would repeat the XI.

Argentinos was lucky to get that draw at River and even though Deportivo Riestra just got promoted for the first time in their club history, I think they can put them in trouble. The hosts will again have way too many important missings (top scorer Goundou, midfielder Redondo among others) and in this league sometimes it’s more difficult to be the home team that has to attack, so the visitors just holding in defense can probably avoid a defeat.
