Boca Juniors vs Lanus
Boca Juniors took a big step towards the league playoffs by beating Huracan 2-0 away in an uneventful game, with Franco Soldano and Gonzalo Maroni finding the back of the net. The team remain second-placed in group B on 19 points, six behind leaders Velez Sarsfield, and will clinch their ticket to the playoffs if they beat Lanus. Miguel Angel Russo took ten of those points across the last five league games, winning three, drawing one and losing one. At home, they won the last two in the Copa Liga Profesional over Defensa y Justicia and Atletico Tucuman. Boca won 2-0 at home over Santos from Brazil on Tuesday 27 in a Copa Libertadores group game.
Lanus wasted another big chance of climbing into the playoff zone in group B last weekend, when losing to Velez Sarsfield 2-1 at home in spite of having taken the first lead through Alexandro Bernabei. Luis Zubeldia’s men are on three consecutive defeats in the Copa Liga Profesional and they remain on 16 points, trailing fourth-placed Independiente by one. On away turf, Lanus won only one of the last five league games, drawing one and losing three.
For Lanus this is a must win game or they could be eliminated today from the playoffs run, they lost midweek at home vs Gremio and need to recover ASAP but they’ve been poor defensively lately so I expect an open game here.
