Banfield vs Estudiantes
Banfield continue to produce an irregular campaign this season. Last weekend, the team succumbed to a narrow 2-1 away defeat to San Lorenzo, a result that put an end to their two-match winning streak in league action. El Taladro remain on 17 points after 16 Liga Profesional rounds, which keeps them 11 points above the relegation berth in the aggregate table. Banfield lost only one of their last seven at Estadio Florencio Sola, winning two and drawing four. Defensive midfielder Cristian Nunez saw a red card at San Lorenzo last time out and is suspended for Sunday. Besides, winger Juan Alvarez succumbed to a muscle problem and will miss out.
Estudiantes finally returned to winning ways last weekend, when they secured an important 1-0 home success over Defensa y Justicia with striker Guido Carrillo scoring. The defending champions put an end to their six-match winless run of two draws and four defeats in league action to make it 20 points in the Liga Profesional, lacking big goals for the remainder of the season as they already clinched a ticket to the 2025 Copa Libertadores. On a sorry note, Estudiantes lost their last three matches as the visiting side without even scoring. Striker Luciano Gimenez overcame a muscle problem and is available.
Even if Estudiantes are far from their best version, I expect them to win here against a Banfield depleted by injuries in every line.
