Arsenal vs Gimnasia

Arsenal succumbed to a heavy blow in their titanic fight to stay in the top flight last time out, when they ended up losing 2-1 away at Huracan after taking the first lead and even missing a penalty. Having lost five of their last six matches in this competition (along with a single victory), El Viaducto remain on 11 points, which places them bottom in the point-average table, trailing Sarmiento (who occupy the last safe place) by 14 points at the moment. At home, Arsenal secured seven points from 18 on offer this term as a product of two victories, one draw and three losses. On Tuesday 2, Arsenal lost on penalties against third-tier side Villa Mitre following a 1-1 draw in the Copa Argentina first round.

Gimnasia LP fans will have felt devastated as their team ended up drawing 1-1 at home against Tigre in round 14 after conceding the equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time. As a result, El Lobo count a single victory across their last four league matches, along with one draw and two defeats. However, they made it 15 points in the Liga Profesional table to hold a healthy seven-point gap over bottom-placed Union Santa Fe. Two weeks ago, Gimnasia claimed their first away win of the league season (4-2 at Argentinos Juniors) after one draw and five losses in this competition. Striker Cristian Tarragona is available after overcoming his muscle problem.

Even if both have been terrible and unreliable lately I’m going with Gimnasia here as they will have Cristian Tarragona back in attack and while there’s still a lot to be played, it seems impossible for Arsenal to avoid relegation as they are deep down in the average table.
