Central Cordoba vs River
After winning in coach Sergio Rondina’s debut, CA Central Cordoba returned to their usual standards last Sunday, when they lost 1-0 at defending champions Colon in a boring game. As a result, El Ferroviario claimed only one victory in the last nine league matches (drawing four and losing four). In fact, the side earned only 11 points in 12 games, which keeps them in the 19th spot of the relegation table. On a positive note, eight of those points were claimed at Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades, where Central Cordoba won two, drew two and lost two.
River Plate produced a poor performance last Sunday, but they still had enough to beat bottom-placed Sarandi Arsenal 1-0 at home thanks to an own goal from Emiliano Mendez. The team extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in league action, winning five and drawing two since losing to Godoy Cruz in round five. Therefore, El Millonario are now in second spot on 24 points, two behind leaders, and hold onto their Copa Libertadores’ spot in the aggregate table.
I have to expect River to continue their good run to stay in the top places when they visit a Central Cordoba that is definitely below their level.
