Godoy Cruz vs Banfield
Godoy Cruz fans will have felt frustrated last Sunday, when the team ended up suffering an unlucky 2-1 home defeat to Boca Juniors. That loss dropped them down to the second spot in group B on 22 points and, more importantly, displaced them from the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table: El Tomba finished in fifth and their spot in that continental competition will depend on who lift the Copa Liga Profesional crown. Daniel Oldra’s men won only one of their last four matches in this competition, drawing one and losing two.
Banfield climbed from fifth to third spot in the group A table to advance to the quarter-finals last Saturday, when beating Gimnasia LP 2-0 at home following an enjoyable second half. El Taladro accumulated 23 points, leapfrogging Rosario Central and Independiente, after extending their unbeaten streak to nine Copa Liga Profesional matches (winning four and drawing five since losing to Barracas Central 1-0 at Huracan in September).
Banfield are a surprise here in the Quarterfinals as they’ve struggled with relegation all season and were only able to get here thanks to other results .Godoy Cruz’ form is not the best but they definitely have enough to beat Banfield and advance to the semifinals.
