Argentinos Jrs vs Independiente
Argentinos Juniors lacked effectiveness on their visit to Platense last time out, securing an unexpected scoreless away draw in a heated derby. El Bicho suffered a single defeat in league action after coach Gabriel Milito’s departure, winning two and drawing two, which means they are on 11 points in group A and just two points behind the last Copa Libertadores’ berth in the aggregate table, occupied by Defensa y Justicia. At home, Argentinos have been unbeaten in the Copa Liga Profesional so far, with two victories and one draw.
In the context of a tough season, Independiente continue to improve under recently-appointed coach Carlos Tevez. Last Saturday, the team secured a solid 2-0 away win at arch-rivals Racing Club thanks to goals from Alexis Canelo and Braian Martinez. El Rojo made it six league matches unbeaten (winning four and drawing two) to become group A leaders again on 14 points, also opening a healthy five-point gap over the relegation spot in the aggregate table, shared by Gimnasia LP and Velez Sarsfield. Independiente collected seven points from the last nine on offer on away turf since losing to Atletico Tucuman 1-0 in July. Centre back Ayrton Costa returns on Saturday.
Super good mood in Independiente this week after winning the big derby at Racing, they are leaders of their group and they continue escaping the relegation zone while Argentinos is a good team and they have the top scorer of the tournament, so I can definitely see at least a couple of goals here.
