Platense vs Gimnasia
Platense put up a very good fight on their visit to Huracan last Monday, but they ended up losing 1-0 away at one of the best teams in the league. Despite having lost two of their last three in this competition (along with a single win), El Calamar accumulated 36 points in the Liga Profesional, which allows them to hold a chance of clinching their first continental ticket in history: in order to qualify for the 2025 Copa Sudamericana, they need to win here and wait for Defensa y Justcia to lose. Platense are unbeaten in their last six at home, winning four and drawing two.
Gimnasia LP are going through a difficult moment. Last Sunday, the team couldn’t earn points at home as a result of an unlucky 1-0 defeat to leaders Talleres. El Lobo made it two consecutive losses and three in their last four league games (along with a single victory in that spell). They remain on 32 points after 26 Liga Profesional rounds, which left them out of any fight for a continental ticket. Gimnasia are on six away matches without a win, drawing four and losing two. Playmaker Lucas Castro reached the yellow-card limit and is suspended. Centre back Enzo Martinez ruptured his knee ligament and left back Nicolas Colazo suffered a toe injury.
Platense must win and hope that Defensa loses to get a Copa Sudamericana place, so their chances seem quite short but I think they should be motivated to get a win at home, where they’ve been strong. in the last game against a Gimnasia that will miss some important starters like playmaker Castro and defenders Martinez and Colazo.
