Independiente Rivadavia – River Plate
Independiente Rivadavia fans will have to be waiting for the season to end. Last time out, the team put up a good fight away at Racing Club, but they ended up losing 2-1. Following that result, La Lepra are on three league games without a win, drawing two and losing one in that time. That streak keeps them on 25 points in 22 Liga Profesional matches and bottom in the point-average, virtually condemned if relegations hadn’t been cancelled a few days ago. On a positive note, Independiente are on four matches unbeaten as the home side (two victories and two stalemates). They will host River Plate at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas on Thursday.
River Plate want to keep fighting for another league title. In their last league game, the team haven’t found any difficulties to beat bottom-placed Barracas Central 3-0 at home. As a result, El Millonario extended their unbeaten streak to six league games (three victories and three stalemates) to accumulate 36 points in the Liga Profesional, now trailing leaders Velez Sarsfield by seven. On away turf, River haven’t lost any of their last seven domestic games, winning two and drawing five. Centre back Paulo Diaz has just returned from his international duty with Chile’s national squad and won’t feature.
River are on a good run and need to win to get 5 points behind the leader Velez but also to continue getting closer to secure a Copa Libertadores 2025 spot, but they won’t have 3 of their 4 starting defenders (Diaz, Pezzela and Marcos Acuña) so while I still think they should win, I’ll go for the OVER here because the hosts have scored in 6 of their last 7 games.
