Talleres – Sarmiento

Talleres returned to winning ways right on time, beating Godoy Cruz 1-0 away in a six-pointer regarding the continental tickets thanks to a strike from Matias Galarza Fonda in the 57th minute. As a result, La T broke a five-match winless run of three stalemates and two losses to accumulate 36 points in the Liga Profesional and to hold onto one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. On a sorry note, Talleres are on three home matches without a win, drawing two and losing one in that spell. Ruben Botta is suspended for Thursday after reaching the yellow-card limit. Juan Portilla and Miguel Navarro have just returned from their international duties and won’t feature.

Sarmiento are going through a very difficult moment. Last time out, the team succumbed to an unexpected 2-0 home defeat to Boca Juniors even showing a decent version. That result means El Verde are without a win in their last six league games (three stalemates and three defeats), which keeps them on 21 points in the Liga Profesional and bottom in the aggregate table, one point behind Tigre with five rounds to go. Last chance for Talleres to continue fighting for this league because they could get within 5 points of Velez with a win but also they desperately need the 3 points to stay on the Copa Libertadores zone of the annual table where Boca is getting closer to them. They won’t have important players like Botta and Portilla but still should be able to beat the very poor Sarmiento who have nothing to play for.
