Velez vs Racing
Velez Sarsfield played their worst game in this competition last Wednesday and succumbed to a devastating 3-0 away defeat against Rosario Central. Therefore, El Fortin saw their ten-match unbeaten streak of nine victories and one draw in league action coming to an end. However, Gustavo Quinteros’ men remain as Liga Profesional leaders on 33 points, advantaging second-placed Talleres by three with 11 rounds to go. Velez are without defeat in their last 13 at home, winning ten and drawing three since losing to Independiente 1-0 in January. Centre back Damian Fernandez is suspended for Saturday after seeing a red card at Rosario Central.
Racing Club are going through a little slump in the league. Last Monday, La Academia drew 1-1 against Platense at home following a disappointing performance. The team are running out of chances to fight for the Liga Profesional title as they are now on 25 points (eight behind leaders Velez Sarsfield) after claiming a single victory in their last five in this competition, drawing two and losing two. In fact, Racing lost their last two league games as the visiting side without even scoring.
Last chance for Racing to fight for the title: they are 8 points behind Velez and a defeat would be the end for them. Velez needs to recover from last week’s awful defeat Rosario, they are two of the best attacking teams in the league and this should be an open one with goals.
