Huracan – Estudiantes

Huracan left good impressions in a hard-fought derby last Saturday, when they drew 1-1 away at arch-rivals San Lorenzo with Williams Alarcon netting a freekick. El Globo are one of the best squads in the Liga Profesional, accumulating 14 points to stay as leaders alongside Union Santa Fe. In fact, Frank Kudelka’s men made it nine matches unbeaten in league action, winning six and drawing three in that time. As hosts, Huracan also are on nine without defeat, with six victories and three stalemates since losing 2-1 to Talleres at Argentinos Juniors in January. Centre back Lucas Carrizo is suspended for Wednesday after reaching the yellow-card limit. Fernando Tobio remains sidelined.

Estudiantes still have work to do in order to recover their usual standards. Last Sunday, the defending champions showed a disappointing version and had to settle for a scoreless home stalemate against Union Santa Fe. Eduardo Dominguez’s men have been winless in their last four league matches, drawing two and losing two, which places them on eight points in six Liga Profesional rounds. In fact, Estudiantes lost their last two away matches in domestic action (to Lanus and Sarmiento). Right back Eros Mancuso succumbed to a muscle problem and will miss out.

Even though Huracan are leaders after 6 rounds, this won’t last for much longer. They lost their best player Ignacio Pusetto who was sold to a Mexican club and in this game they won’t have Tobio and Carrizo, arguably their best defenders. The defending champions Estudiantes have been struggling lately but it’s a matter of time until they recover because they have the talent to do it so I’ll trust them to at least avoid a defeat here.
