Sarmiento – Racing

Sarmiento showed a worrying version last Friday, when they weren’t able to stop Rosario Central’s alternative XI and suffered an unexpected 4-2 away defeat. That result stopped El Verde’s two-match winning streak in Liga Profesional action and left them on seven points in six rounds, also shortening their gap over the relegation spot in the aggregate table (occupied by Tigre) to six points. On a positive note, Sarmiento beat Estudiantes 2-0 in their last home match to stop a streak of four consecutive losses at Estadio Eva Peron. The club signed winger Nicolas Gaitan as a free agent.

Racing Club returned to their best version after the Copa America break. Last Saturday, the team dominated Godoy Cruz from beginning to end and beat them 3-0 at home. As a result, La Academia made it 13 points in the Liga Profesional, now trailing leaders Huracan and Union Santa Fe by one point. Having lost only one of their last ten league games (seven victories and two stalemates, Gustavo Costas’ men climbed into the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table. Racing lost to Lanus 2-0 in their last away game in domestic action after four without defeat on the road (three wins and one draw).

Racing keep scoring freely lately and now they have 15 in the first 6 rounds of this tournament. Sarmiento comes from conceding 4 against Rosario Central’s alternate lineup so I can’t see why we won’t have at least 2 goals here.
