Godoy Cruz vs Tigre
Godoy Cruz couldn’t hold onto their lead against Newell’s Old Boys at home last Sunday and had to settle for a 1-1 home stalemate in an entertaining match. However, El Tomba continue to perform an excellent campaign in the Copa Liga Profesional: they lost only one of their nine games (along with six victories and two draws), which places them as leaders in group B on 20 points, even holding one match in hand. On a sorry note, Godoy Cruz are on three league games without a win at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, having drawn two and lost one in that time. Playmaker Hernan Lopez is suspended for Sunday after seeing a red card last weekend.
Tigre’s crisis seem endless at the moment. Last Monday, they couldn’t avoid a heartbreaking 3-2 home defeat to Lanus despite having taken the lead twice. El Matador made it two consecutive losses in the Copa Liga Profesional and eight across their last 12 league games (along with one victory and three draws). The side remain occupying the bottom spot of the aggregate table (alongside Atletico Tucuman) on five points. Tigre secured a single point from the last 18 available as the visiting side.
Godoy Cruz needs to stop this bad run that started with the Copa Libertadores elimination and start winning games again so they can secure a playoff spot as soon as possible. They will be playing at home against one of the worst teams in the league so this is the perfect game for them to get the win they need and continue at the top of Group B.
