Estudiantes vs Newell’s
In coach Eduardo Dominguez’s second game at the club, Estudiantes saw their impressive streak of 20 city derbies without defeat (nine wins and 11 draws) coming to an end last time out, when they lost 2-1 away at Gimnasia LP after taking the first lead. That slump means El Pincha remain on eight points in as many matches in the Liga Profesional, only three above bottom-placed Colon after winning only one of their last four matches in this competition (along with one stalemate and two defeats). Four of those points were grabbed at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, where Estudiantes registered one victory, one draw and two defeats this term.
Jorge Recalde’s strike in the 77th minute allowed Newell’s Old Boys to secure a massive 1-0 home success over San Lorenzo, who were leaders beforehand. La Lepra made it three league matches without defeat, with two victories and one draw, to accumulate 14 points in the Liga Profesional. As a result, the team are placing just four points behind table toppers River Plate at the moment.
Estudiantes has been terrible so far this season and losing the city derby in the previous round was a big blow. They won’t have playmaker Pablo Piatti and that won’t help them either, so I’m going with the visitors not to lose here.
