San Lorenzo vs River Plate
San Lorenzo managed a valuable point on their visit to Colon last Wednesday, when they focused on keeping a clean sheet and secured a scoreless away draw. Therefore, El Ciclon extended their unbeaten streak to six league games (two victories and four draws in a row) to make it 27 points in the Liga Profesional, which means a big improvement with regard to the first semester of the year. San Lorenzo are unbeaten in their last 11 home matches, but only two of those were wins and the other nine ended in draws.
River Plate couldn’t recover after their huge blow in the Superclasico and ended up suffering their second consecutive defeat in league action last Wednesday, when they lost to Banfield 2-1 at home in an intense game. El Millonario are running out of chances to fight for the title as they remain on 29 points in the Liga Profesional, trailing leaders Gimnasia LP by seven. However, Marcelo Gallardo’s men remain occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ places in the 2022 aggregate table. On away turf, River have been winless in their last three away matches, drawing two and losing one since beating Independiente 1-0 in early August.
River couldn’t recover from the defeat in the Superclasico, lost midweek against Banfield and should have a hard time against this San Lorenzo that is far from being a good team but they they’ve been quite strong at home lately and will be motivated not to lose this derby.
