Lanus vs River Plate

Lanus continue to fall in the relegation table (occupying 20th spot). Last Saturday, they were leapfrogged by Newell’s Old Boys, who beat them 1-0 in Rosario. The team are yet to win in the Superliga and, after four consecutive defeats without even scoring, El Granate is on just two points, sitting in 25th. Lanus earned just one point at home, drawing with Defensa y Justicia in the season opener and losing to Aldosivi and Racing Club.

River Plate secured a highly-celebrated 2-0 away win at Boca Juniors in the Superclasico last Sunday. With Gonzalo Martinez and Ignacio Scocco finding the back of the net, Marcelo Gallardo’s men climbed into the fifth spot on ten points after two consecutive wins in the Superliga, having not yet suffered any defeats. It was their first away league success this term as they had drew with Huracan and San Lorenzo in previous rounds.

There are no doubts that River, arguably the best team in Argentina right now, is much better than Lanus, but due to their upcoming Copa Libertadores Quarterfinal 2nd leg against Independiente on Tuesday coach Marcelo Gallardo has decided to rotate some of his starters, so I have to go with the hosts getting something from this game.
