Godoy Cruz vs Lanus
After an impressive effort, Godoy Cruz finally climbed out of the relegation zone. Last Sunday, the team secured a massive 2-0 away success at River Plate thanks to goals from Martin Ojeda and Gonzalo Abrego. El Tomba made it four matches unbeaten in league action (three victories and one draw) 13 points in the Liga Profesional, two behind leaders. El Tomba are now three points above the first drop spot in the relegation table, occupied by Aldosivi, and also have approached the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate rankings. Godoy Cruz also are on eight home matches without defeat, having won four and drawn four in that spell.
Lanus continue struggling to find their best version even after coach’s Jorge Almiron’s departure. Last Sunday, under interim boss Rodrigo Acosta, the team succumbed to a 3-2 home defeat to Huracan in an entertaining match. That result means El Granate have lost their last three league games in a row and remain on five points after seven Liga Profesional matches. On away turf, Lanus have been winless in their last 14 domestic games, drawing five and losing nine since beating Argentinos Juniors 1-0 in October. On Wednesday 13, the side lost 3-1 to Godoy Cruz in the Copa Argentina second round. Thinking of Sunday, Lautaro Acosta, Tomas Belmonte and Nicolas Pasquini remain out injured while Diego Braghieri and Braian Aguirre also succumbed to different muscle issues. Â
They met midweek in Copa Argentina where Godoy Cruz won 3-1 and I can’t see why they wouldn’t win again here considering their strong form compared to Lanus.
