Estudiantes vs Newell’s
Estudiantes were displaced from the top of the Liga Profesional table following their 2-1 away defeat at Independiente in an intense match last Monday. That result stopped their four-match unbeaten streak of two victories and two draws in league action: However, Ricardo Zielinski’s men remain on seven points in this competition and continue occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ places in the aggregate table. At home, Estudiantes are on six domestic matches without defeat, winning four and drawing two in regular time since losing to Boca Juniors in March.
Willer Ditta’s goal in the first half allowed Newell’s Old Boys to secure a massive 1-0 home success over Argentinos Juniors that was important in several ways: La Lepra are now the only Liga Profesional leaders on ten points (winning three and drawing one after four rounds) and they also leapfrogged their last opponents in the aggregate table to climb into fifth spot (which will very likely qualify for the 2023 Copa Libertadores). Newell’s also have been perfect on the road in this competition, beating Banfield and Talleres. Centre back Cristian Lema has served his two-match ban and is ready to return.
Newell’s has been really solid so far in this tournament and they will face this Estudiantes that has a very important game midweek and could rest some starters, so I’m going with the visitors to get something from this game.
