Platense vs Godoy Cruz
Having accumulated only ten points in the first semester and holding a terrible run of 11 league matches without a win (three draws and eight defeats), Platense are now on the verge of the relegation zone, only above Godoy Cruz and Patronato in the respective table. Furthermore, the side were knocked out of the Copa Argentina in the first round after losing to second-division club Belgrano on penalties following a 1-1 draw on May 25th. At home, El Calamar managed only one point from the last 15 on offer. The club hired four reinforcements so far, with Mauro Zarate (from Juventude, Brazil) and Alexis Sabella (San Lorenzo) as the most noteworthy ones.
After winning only one of their last eight league matches (five draws and two defeats), Godoy Cruz made it 16 points last semester and remain occupying one of the relegation places ahead of this new campaign. In fact, El Tomba managed only two points from the last 12 available on the road. However, the last safe spot is occupied by Platense, so this is the perfect opportunity to leapfrog them.
Can’t see Godoy Cruz as the favorites in what should be a tight game between two poor teams so I think the hosts should take something.
