After six wins and two draws, Colon finally succumbed to their first defeat in this competition last Sunday, when they put up a good fight but returned home empty-handed after a 3-2 away defeat at River Plate. However, Eduardo Dominguez’s men remain as group A leaders on 20 points, holding a five-point gap over their last opponents, Estudiantes and Racing Club. At home, El Sabalero won two and drew two so far.
Godoy Cruz couldn’t have a happy return to their own stadium after 16 years. Last Sunday, the team ended up losing 3-2 to Sarandi Arsenal (who hadn’t claimed any victories beforehand) in a thrilling game. Having won only one of their last five league matches (along with one draw and three defeats), El Tomba remain on 11 points in nine rounds, which places them 24th spot of the point-average table, level with Patronato and just above Sarmiento. With their top scorer, Luis Rodriguez, back, Colon should be able to recover from last week’s defeat and almost secure a playoff spot with a win.
