World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria National Football Team

Supporters of the current Nigeria Football Team believe that the Super Eagles can bring home the crown from this year’s World Cup in Russia. During the friendly match in November 2017, the Super Eagles beat La Albiceleste in a friendly match, 4-2 played in Krasnodar Arena, one of the venues of the WC matches. Is this a preview of what’s going to happen in the biggest tournament this summer?

Both teams’ star players weren’t on that match, but Nigeria has proven impressive skills, which could be something to watch out for in Russia this June. Many believe that the key influence of the flying Super Eagles is their German manager Gernot Rohr who created an overall balance in the national team’s key players.

Skills and Scoring

Nigeria booked their spot effortlessly and remained unbeaten during the qualifying round. The scores? Draws against Algeria (1-1) and Cameroon (1-1), as well as triumphs over Algeria (3-1), Zambia (1-2 and 1-0), and Cameroon (4-0). As mentioned earlier, there’s a 4-2 win against Argentina.

Football Star Player

Nigeria’s star player is Kelechi Iheanacho, who plays for Leicester City in the Premier League. At only 21 years old with a towering height and skilled, fast moves, he has already shown scoring expertise with 8 goals out of 13 appearances for the national team. He hasn’t made a massive debut yet, so Nigerian fans will have to see his full capacity this 2018 World Cup.

Rising Star

Playing for Arsenal showcased Alex Iwobi’s exceptional talent. Though he isn’t practically a big star in the Premier League, he’s one of the key players of the Super Eagles. A nephew of Nigeria football legend Jay-Jay Okocha, he appears to have gotten his uncle’s skills and he’s about to show that off at the World Cup in Russia.
