Certainly swimming against the tide to what the majority of people seem to be thinking for this game. But I am betting Denmark +0.75 here. The Danes who will be delighted to have got out of the group stages and anything else will be a bonus, they now face one of the best teams so far in the tournament in Croatia. The Croats beat Nigeria 2-0 and Argentina 3-0 while the squad players beat Iceland 2-1 in their latest match.
However, I think there is value in the Danish price and I think it is possible to argue that maybe the Croats have been a little flattered so far. They beat a team who were dreadful on the night in Nigeria 2-0 and also beat a side in Argentina by a 3-0 scoreline who in that match really did not help themselves with some terrible errors. I think the Croats odds today are a reflection of those scorelines rather than of the performances in both. The Argentina match was a tight game that looked maybe it was heading towards a 0-0 until Willy Caballero intervened, after his mistake that allowed Croatia to take the lead. The Argentine heads dropped and Croatia scored a further 2 to run out 3-0 victors. After that Croatia was drastically cut in odds to win the World Cup and while they have been super so far I can’t help but feel they are a bit overrated at this stage too.
The Danes have players nearing fitness after injury in Kvist and Poulsen is coming back from suspension which will be a boost. They have not lost in 18 games and they will not have the pressure the Croats will have either. I am going for an upset here and betting Denmark+0.75.
