Gimnasia LP is bottom in the Superliga table with a single point after succumbing to their fourth consecutive defeat (1-0 away at Argentinos Juniors). The negative run resulted in coach Hernan Ortiz’s resignation. Gimnasia continues occupying one of the relegation spots, 11 points behind Colon and Banfield who are safe. Defending league champions Racing Club celebrated their first victory this season last time out when beating Godoy Cruz 3-1 at home thanks to goals from Dario Cvitanich, Lisandro Lopez and Diego Gonzalez. They climbed into 14th place in the Superliga table on six points. Only two of those points were claimed on the road as Racing drew with Velez Sarsfield and Central Cordoba.
All eyes will be on this match in Argentina as Diego Maradona will coach in Argentina after more than 20 years. He is not the best coach but Gimnasia expects to have the kind of morale boost they need by having him on the bench, and I’m betting on them to get the all-time idol something on his debut.
