San Lorenzo vs River

After a chaotic season last year, San Lorenzo seems to be finding some relief. The team got a valuable 2-0 victory away to Gimnasia LP, with goals from Andrés Vombergar and Emanuel Cecchini, adding six points out of six in the first two games of the Apertura Tournament. This good start places them as leaders of Group B. In addition, their 1-0 victory against Talleres in the first round put an end to a streak of four games without winning at the Pedro Bidegain Stadium (one draw and three losses). Coach Miguel Russo still misses his star player, Iker Muniain, who remains out of the field due to a muscle injury.

River Plate is still far from showing its best form, but it comes from a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Instituto at home, thanks to a header from Gonzalo Montiel in the 90th minute. With this result, Millonario has added four points out of six in the Torneo Apertura, placing it at the top of Group B. In total, Marcelo Gallardo’s team has lost only one of its last six league games, winning three and drawing two. However, River has had problems away from home, adding only four of the last 12 points available in this competition, with one win, one draw and two losses.

San Lorenzo looked solid in the first two rounds, not brilliant, but they managed to keep a clean sheet and win both games, and they also did so in the 3 pre-season friendlies in which they didn’t concede a goal. River is of course the better of these two, but they didn’t show much yet this year, this is a classic that will have a stadium full of San Lorenzo fans and they should be able to avoid at least one defeat.
