Institute vs Velez
After their excellent debut, Instituto put in a very decent performance last Wednesday, even beating River Plate at times as a visitor, but ultimately suffered a painful 1-0 away defeat after conceding a goal in the 90th minute. This result leaves them with three points out of a possible six in the Torneo Apertura and also marks their third defeat in the last four league games, with just one victory. On the positive side, La Gloria has won three and lost one of their last four games at the Estadio Juan Domingo Perón.
Vélez Sarsfield is having a tough start to the year under new manager Sebastián Domínguez. Last Tuesday, the defending Liga Profesional champions suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Platense, conceding the decisive goal in stoppage time. El Fortín is yet to pick up a point in 2025 and has lost three of its last four league games (only beating Huracán in the decisive game). In addition, Vélez has gone seven away games without a win (four draws and three losses). Captain Valentín Gómez has been sold to Udinese Calcio in Italy. Right-back Agustín Lagos (who has been replacing the long-term injured Joaquín García) will not be able to play due to a muscular problem.
Instituto was unlucky to concede a late goal and lose at River, so I’ll trust them here against the defending champions who lost the first two games, couldn’t even score a goal and look completely out of shape without the good players who left.
