Racing – Aldosivi
Despite constant roster turnover under Gustavo Costas, Racing Club is showing signs of improvement in the league. Last Saturday, the team put in a solid performance, defeating Banfield 3-1 away. With that result, La Academia extended their unbeaten streak in the competition to five matches (three wins and two draws) and reached 15 points in the Clausura Tournament. While this is still not enough to advance them to the playoff zone in Group A, it does put them in one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the overall standings. Racing Club, on the other hand, has only collected five of a possible 21 points at home in this tournament. Gabriel Rojas will miss Friday’s match due to a muscle injury. Coach Gustavo Costas will field a completely alternative starting eleven. Goalkeeper Francisco Gómez will make his debut.
Aldosivi remains steadfast in its fight to remain in the top flight. Last Sunday, the team defeated Huracán 2-0 at home with goals from Natanael Guzmán and Giuliano Cerato. After earning their second consecutive league win, El Tiburón has nine points in the Clausura Tournament and is just three away from escaping the relegation zone in the standings. Aldosivi also beat Unión Santa Fe 2-0 in their last away game, breaking a streak of five consecutive away losses. Federico Gino served his suspension and is available for Friday’s game.
Racing will use a lineup full of reserves, including the debut of their third-string goalkeeper, as they play the Copa Libertadores semifinals in Brazil next Wednesday for the first time in almost 30 years. I’m confident Aldosivi will take something from this game after two consecutive wins, as they need points to avoid relegation.
