Argentinian central defender Emanuel Mammana has injured his knee and will miss the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He tore the cruciate ligament of his left knee.
According to the Russian football club FC Zenit St. Petersburg, Mammana will undergo operation, which will lead to recovery time of 6 to 9 months. The footballer currently plays in the Russian Premier League for Zenitchiki.
The 22-year old defender hurt himself in a nasty fall against Rostov while he was clearing off a ball on a header and at the same time, being slightly pushed by his opponent.
Coach Robert Mancini chooses Mammana as a regular starter in the football line-up, which gave Emanuel access to participate in a friendly match between Russia and Nigeria last year.
The World Cup in Russia will begin on June 14, 2018.
