How the World Cup Tickets will be Distributed

Believe it or not, FIFA World Cup 2018 fans requested almost five million tickets to be sold for the much-awaited, most prestigious international football tournament this coming June in Russia.

How will the World Cup tickets be distributed? Because of the large demand for the coveted tickets, the allocation will be based on random draw. During the first period of the second sales phase, fans requested a total of 4,905,169 tickets at FIFA’s official website. The said period for the Random Selection Draw ran from Dec 5, 2017 to January 31, 2018.

Out of the 4.9M tickets, 2.5M were requested by Russian football fans. This is the largest number of tickets requested from one country. The next two countries with highest ticket demands are Germany (338,000) and Argentina (189,000).

Even if the World Cup ticket sales happened in December and January, the random selection draw will be announced mid-March. The process of random ticket allocation will be held in front of a notary for legal reasons.

The next period of the second sales phase began on March 13 and will last until April 3, 2018. This time, tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. After this schedule, football fans will have their final chance of getting tickets on April 18 to July 15 (before and during the tournament) on a first come, first serve basis as well.
