Copa Libertadores: Colo Colo (Chile) vs Corinthians (Brazil)
Colo Colo took advantage of the goal difference to return to the Copa Libertadores’ round-of-16 after 11 years. A hard-fought 0-0 draw at Atletico Nacional from Colombia was enough to advance. Last Saturday, boss Hector Tapia rotated his players and the side lost 1-0 at Deportes Temuco, which stopped a three-game winning streak in all competitions. Speaking of the league, Colo Colo is now in fifth on 30 points, nine behind leaders Universidad Catolica and Deportes Concepcion. However, they won five of their last seven home competitive games, suffering a single defeat in that spell.
Corinthians lost 1-0 at home to Millonarios in their last Libertadores’ game, but that didn’t displaced them from the first spot of the group table Last Saturday, O Timao drew 0-0 at home with Atletico Paranaense, which means they are on four games unbeaten, having won the other three. Corinthians’ league campaign is not much impressive so far as they are in seventh on 27 points, eight behind leaders Sao Paulo. The team won 4-1 at Vasco da Gama in their last away win, but they had returned empty-handed from the four previous travels.
Striker Lucas Barrios is back playing for Colo Colo after a good season for Argentinos Juniors so their attack should be stronger but at home, their defense was not good in the groups’ stage and conceding on counterattacks against Brazilian clubs is always a possibility so I expect goals here and I like the very low line.
