Boca Juniors (Argentina) vs Cruzeiro (Brazil)
Boca Juniors did not find difficulties to beat Libertad from Paraguay 4-2 away, thanks to goals from Cristian Pavon, Carlos Tevez, Mauro Zarate and Edwin Cardona. That made it 6-2 on aggregate. Last Saturday, El Xeneize also beat Argentinos Juniors 1-0 away even though coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto introduced several changes in the XI. The team reached ten points in the league table (three behind leaders Racing Club) and five games without defeat in all competitions, with four consecutive wins. Boca also is on five home victories in a row without even conceding since losing to Brazil’s Palmeiras 2-0 in April.
Meanwhile, Cruzeiro produced a sorry performance in their last Libertadores game, which resulted in a 1-0 home defeat to Flamengo, but they had enough to advance thanks to a 2-0 away win in the first leg. Last Sunday, A Raposa registered a scoreless home draw in the derby against Atletico Mineiro, which means they are now seventh-placed on 34 points in the Brazilian league table, eight behind their arch-rivals who are occupying the last Libertadores’ spot. Cruzeiro hasn’t lost since that home defeat to Flamengo (five games, one win and four draws). They also won the last away game (1-0 at Palmeiras in the Copa Brazil) to stop a four-match winless run on the road.
If this Boca team has one strength is in the attack, but at the same time they always look vulnerable in defense and Cruzeiro, who scored 15 goals in the 6 matches of the groups’ stage, won’t forgive them any mistakes so I have to go with this low goal line again.
