Independiente vs Colon
Independiente came from two goals down thanks to goals from Braian Romero and Silvio Romero in the second half to save a point on their visit to Estudiantes last time out. However, the 2-2 draw means Ariel Holan’s men are yet to win in the Superliga, having booked two draws and one loss (with a match in hand). El Rojo lost to Defensa y Justicia 1-0 in their only home game this season. Last Monday, they played against second-tier squad Brown de Adrogue in the Copa Argentina and drew 1-1 but lost on the penalties shootout, which means they were knocked out of this competition.
Colon is also winless in the current league season following a scoreless draw in a heated and hard-fought derby against Union Santa Fe at home. Eduardo Dominguez’s men are on just three points in four weeks, which is far below the fans’ expectations even though the team is performing well in the Copa Sudamericana. El Sabalero earned a single point from six available on the road in the league. Last weekend, they lost on penalties after a 2-2 draw against San Lorenzo in the Copa Argentina’s round-of-32 and were knocked out of the tournament.
Both squads are mostly focusing on continental competitions and are also finding trouble in the Superliga, but Independiente has a massively important game vs River in Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals and that means that they could rotate heavily here.
