Union Santa Fe vs Gimnasia

Union Santa Fe has suffered their first league defeat last Monday when losing at leaders Racing Club 1-0. The team returned home empty-handed after conceding in the second half even though they were able to play an even game against the best squad in the Superliga. After that loss, Union remains on nine points, having managed seven of them at their own stadium, thanks to two victories and one draw.

Gimnasia LP is on three unbeaten games (one win, two draws) after the team’s 1-1 home draw with Rosario Central last Sunday. In a hard-fought match, El Lobo was able to save a point as Santiago Silva netted a penalty in the 47th minute. Therefore, Gimnasia is on eight points in the Superliga and opened a seven-point gap over San Martin SJ in the relegation table. Pedro Troglio’s men accumulated four points in three away games this term. Last Thursday, Gimnasia won 1-0 against Boca Juniors in the Copa Argentina, which means they advanced to the quarter-finals.

Union is strong at home and despite Gimnasia’s great mood after the big midweek win vs Boca, I can see the hosts claiming three points here. I’ll back a home win.
