San Martin de San Juan vs Defensa y Justicia

San Martin SJ suffered their fourth defeat in their last five league matches last time out when they couldn’t hold onto a 1-0 lead and ended up losing at San Lorenzo 2-1. They did at least beat Velez Sarsfield 3-1 during that sorry run but have clinched only eight points so far. The team are still out of the drop zone only because they have a league match in hand at Rosario Central. At home, San Martin has been inconsistent so far, registering two wins and two losses.

Defensa y Justicia continues to perform an excellent campaign. Last time out, the team celebrated an easy 2-0 home win over Talleres playing decent football. It was their third victory in a row. The team lost 2-0 at Colombia’s Junior in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana’s quarter-finals on Thursday. Monday’s XI will be a game-time decision, but there will certainly be several changes as most of the regulars will rest ahead of the Copa Sudamericana’s return leg next Thursday and that’s why even though Defensa y clearly the better team here, I have to go with the hosts.
