Racing vs Newell’s

After collecting a single point from the previous six, Racing Club returned to winning ways by beating San Lorenzo 2-1 at home in spite of trailing at the break. As a result of that win, La Academia opened a four-point gap over Atletico Tucuman (23 to 19) at the top of the Superliga table. Racing has been almost perfect at their own stadium this term, registering four successes and one draw.

Newell’s are on three consecutive home victories following a 2-0 success over bottom-placed Argentinos Juniors in Rosario last time out. Coach Omar De Felippe fielded an alternative XI, but the team still had enough to claim three valuable points. La Lepra is now on 11 in the league table and they also leapfrogged their last opponents with regard to relegation. However, Newell’s booked one draw and four defeats on away turf so far. Last Thursday, the side lost 1-2 against arch-rivals Rosario Central in the Copa Argentina and they were knocked out.

Racing should be strong enough to beat Newell’s Old Boys who are terrible travellers and lost a very important game only 72 hrs ago. Home win.
