Argentinos Juniors vs Lanus

Argentinos Juniors goalkeeper Lucas Chaves was superb to keep a clean sheet and allowed his team to return home with a valuable point following a scoreless draw at River Plate. On the other hand, the team earned just two points in this Superliga season and are winless in their last six league games stretching back to last term (four draws, two defeats). However, Argentinos are strong at home: they claimed six wins and three draws in their last ten games, just losing to Godoy Cruz in May.

A few days after being knocked out of the Copa Argentina by B Nacional squad Atletico Rafaela, Lanus made it ten Superliga games without a win (eight draws, two defeats) last Sunday, when losing to newcomers Aldosivi 1-0 at home. The team produced a worrying performance and coach Ezequiel Carboni resigned after the game. El Granate accumulated just two points this season and relegation could be a real threat if they don’t improve.

Lanus will be coached today by interim Rodrigo Acosta, who is the brother of Lautaro Acosta, the team’s captain and best player who is injured and will miss this game.

It seems like a perfect opportunity for Argentinos to get their first win of the season taking advantage of this very poor and disoriented Lanus that won’t have their best player.
