Union (Argentina) vs Nacional (Uruguay)
Union Santa Fe have a mountain to climb if they want to reach the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals for the first time in history following their 2-0 away defeat to Nacional last Tuesday. On Sunday, coach Gustavo Munua rested all his regulars, but his team still beat Lanus 3-0 at home to make it ten points in six matches in the Liga Profesional and also approach the Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. Union won three and lost three of their last seven matches in all competitions, having stopped a three-match winless streak of one draw and two defeats at home last Sunday.
Nacional managed a big 2-0 home success over Union Santa Fe last week and would make it to the quarter-finals even losing by a one-goal margin in Argentina. The team made it four consecutive victories in all competitions. Last weekend, Pablo Repetto’s men haven’t seen any action last weekend as the AUF suspended the league due to violence. As a result, El Bolso continue at the top of the Torneo Intermedio Table on nine points in three matches. On away turf, they won the last two 1-0 (over Defensor Sporting and Danubio).
Union needs to win by at least 2 goals to advance but I expect Nacional to keep it tight for as long as possible and this should give us a low scoring game.
